Who we are and what we Practice

at the Church of Christ, 1747 W. Laurel Street, San Antonio, Texas?

We are a congregation of the New Testament order founded by our Lord Jesus Christ on the first Pentecost after His resurrection in the year 33 AD, in the city of Jerusalem (Acts 2). We preach the Gospel Plan of Salvation according to the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ (I Cor. 15:1-4; Rom. 6:1-6). We are given the Holy Spirit upon our obedience to the new birth (Acts 2:38) and are added by the Lord Jesus to His church (Acts 2:47). We abide by the Apostles Doctrine stated in the New Testament, and may only be obtained through study, teaching and preaching (Romans 10:14-17). Our plea is for unity among believers prayed for by our Lord (John 17:20-21).

The purpose of this statement is to let all that visit or desire to place membership with us, know beforehand the purpose and practice of this congregation.

Our congregation is inter-racial, but predominately black American.
We have a full-time evangelist, but at this time without elders or deacons.

To place membership: We ask for a letter, which shows you are in fellowship with your previous congregation of the church of Christ. We do not believe there are Christians in denominational churches.

	We baptize the penitent believer in water in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit for the remission of sin.
	We have an active Sunday school with classes for all ages; some of the lower grades have women instructors.
	We have an Educational Director and Bible School Superintendent.
	We drink out of individual cups in the communion.
	We take up the offering in more than one basket, upon the First Day of the week.
	We have Ladies and Men's Bible classes.
	We have BI-annual Ladies Day Program.
	We believe in congregational cooperation in missions and benevolent work.
	We help the needy, within reason monetarily, with a food pantry at the "church facility."
	We come together to eat in the "church building" on special occasions.
	We believe-in group singing when it is not performed in or during the worship.
	We do not celebrate any "man-made holidays" on the church property.
	We ask that all men serving in the worship dress in appropriate attire.
	We have Children Bible Hour for ages 5-11 during A.M. worship.
	We support Southwestern Christian College in special donations.
	We have, on occasions, Gospel Meetings, Revival Meetings, Workshops and Seminars on various subjects for the spreading of the Gospel, the edification and equipping of the saints. We have a Youth Minister and ministry staff of volunteers and parents.

The above statements are made to eliminate time, high blood pressure and Bible discussions concerning the congregation called the Laurel Street church of Christ.
